After struggling to make shots most of the night, the Hawks finally saw some drop in the 4th quarter. Trailing 15-12 entering the final frame, Heritage took control by outscoring the Chargers 11-0 to end the game. In the final 3 quarters, the Hawks outscored Dow 23-8. The energy and the effort just wasn’t there to start the game. One big reason the intensity picked up was the bench. Their cheering, clapping, and encouraging was probably the difference in the game. In the locker room, the players who were on the floor were praising the energy the bench provided. The effort and communication on the defensive end continues to be this group’s identity. Dow had averaged 41 points in their last 6 games and they held them to 15. Brooklyn Tanner led the Hawks in scoring with 8 second half points. Joslyn Dupuis added 7. A’Nayah Williams had just 2 points, but they were huge free-throws to help closeout the game. She had a great week from a leadership perspective and those free-throws just capped it off. Jillian Maloney and Claudia Mussull scored 4 and 2 respectively. Heritage travels to Midland, on Tuesday, where they will attempt to complete a season sweep of a tough Chemic team. The Hawks won their January matchup 36-34.
