Boys Junior Varsity Soccer, Boys Varsity Soccer · Hawks Hire Ross Gibson to Lead Boys Soccer

Heritage High School would like to welcome Ross Gibson as the new Varsity Coach for the Boys’ Soccer program. Coach Gibson stated, “this is a huge program that has been left in a great spot, and I’m looking forward to getting started with this team. I’m fortunate to know the Saginaw area really well, and I’m excited to engage with the surrounding community and get the team involved in growing this program and its success. I’m pleased to say I know a lot of the boys already from coaching them when they were younger in some of the surrounding academies. I know the talent that we have, and it’s a real opportunity to make this program a titan of a team in this area. I’m genuinely looking forward to chasing some state championships and cant wait to get going.”

Gibson has an extensive background in coaching soccer. He began coaching soccer in his native England with the semi-professional team North Ferriby United before joining English Premier League team Hull City where he coached for their Youth Academy. While with Hull, Gibson earned his first FA Coaching Licenses (Level 1 & 2). Later, Gibson joined Scunthorpe United and earned his FA Full Youth Academic License and the the prestigious UEFA B License.

Gibson then moved to the USA and began working as the Director of Coaching/Soccer Operations for two clubs, Northland United in Big Rapids and Freeland Force in Freeland. He combined this with a role as the Assistant Coach for Big Rapids High School boys and girls teams, and after spending a year in those roles, he moved to Freeland Force full-time as the Director of Coaching.

Later, he was recruited for the Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach position at Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU). After a two successful seasons with the SVSU Men’s and Women’s programs and a role as Head Coach and Director of Academy Operations at Nationals Soccer, he left both of these positions to take on a role as the Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach at Northwood University, where the team went on to win the GLIAC Conference and reach the tournament Semi Final. Most recently, he was hired to take on the role of Director of Soccer at Michigan Wolves/Hawks, Saginaw.
